Arthritis
1 : My wife has rheumatoid Arthritis and hammer toes on her left foot. Her RA consultant has recommended a product from Silipos with gel included. The consultant referred to 'forefoot covers'.  Are these available to purchase and do they come in various sizes - she wears size 5 shoes? If forefoot covers are not available can you recommend another product which could give her relief from the pain (synovitis and tendonopathy) from the MTPJs and the hammer toes at the top of her foot?

2 :
My mum has arthritis in her ankle & it has been suggested that she has a rocker bottom put on the sole of the shoe & some cushioned inserts.  Is that somthing you can supply & if so which would recomend?

Sweaty Feet
1 : I am 50 years old and I have started suffering from sweaty feet on the flat part next to my toes.  There is a bit of an odour from them.  Can you help?

Shin Splints
1 : I suffer from shin pain and stiffness after walking briskly or running for 10 minutes.  I was told this was due to my feet being supinate as I tend to walk on the outside edge of my feet and purchased running shoes to help this.  They are good quality asics nimbus gel trainers but they do not seem to be helping.  Would sole inserts help with this?

Metatarsalgia
1 : My doctor tells me I have Metatarsalgia in my left foot.  How serious a problem is this and how can it be treated?

Foot Drop
1 : I HAVE FOOT DROP IN MY LEFT LEG AND FIND IT HARD LIFTING MY TOES UP (HEEL TOE ACTION) WHEN I AM WALKING. I HAVE NERVE DAMAGE IN MY SPINE, FOLLOWING A SLIPDISC IN MY LATE TWENTIES (I AM NOW 45YRS OLD) AND A SERIOUS DOSE OF FLU WHICH AFFECTED MY IMMUNE SYSTEM. MY MAIN PROBLEM IS WALKING AND PICKING UP MY FEET. I TEND TO DRAG MY FEET, WHICH RESEMBLES PEOPLE WITH 'MS', BUT HAVING HAD MEDICAL ADVICE AND AS I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM SINCE 1999, DOCTORS CAN NOT DIAGNOSE OR CONFIRM THIS.  I EXERCISE AND SEE A PHYSIOTHERAPIST. I WEAR INSOLES WHICH WHERE MADE TO MEASURE, BUT AS MY CONDITION HAS BECOME WORSE, I FEEL I NEED ADDITIONAL SUPPORT.  ANY SUGGESTIONS?.

Heel Pain
1 : I just want to know why my ankle is swollen and my heel is also swollen and painfull. I my work is all day standing. I am working as a housekeeper and whwn I climb up and down my heels make me even more painfull ,please let me know what is the best treatment! Thank You

2 : Hi,I have a pain in the  heel going upwards back of ankle also bottom of foot accross just behind the toes!

3 : I would like to know which is the best product to buy for heel pain? My heels hurt practically all day now and I cannot run because the pain is just too much. It has been on going for a few months now, but it is now very painful and I cannot find a pair of shoes that are comfortable enough, so I would like to know what to do? Should I see a chiropodist or should I buy some insoles?

Footwear
1 : My daughter is now a teenager and suffers from hemipligia which means that one foot is 1/2 - 1 size smaller than the other. She wears an orthotic splint at school but not when going out at weekends. We struggle to find "fashion Shoes" which she can wear. We buy a pair of shoes to fit her larger foot and she goes for low no heel slip on shoes without a strap but just a covering over the toes. She has trouble walking in them as the shoe on her left foot, the smaller one keeps slipping off.Can you please suggest a solution or advise us what we can do.
It is frustrating for a growing teenage girl not to be fashionable like her peers.

2 : My podiatrist suggested that I buy 'rocker bottom' inserts (smallest amount) for my shoes.

Please can you tell me where I would be able to buy these?

3 : In December 2008 my husband underwent an operation on the left ankle for ankle fusion.  He is 72. Generally the operation has been successful, certainly in technique terms. Clearly at this mature age, it is a question of readjustment and walking re alignment. Whilst the pain levels are still there (but reducing) I feel that better footwear could assist the rehabilitation. I have been reading about SACHS insoles. Could you advise me please as to the ideal direction on footwear. We have attempted to identify suitable physiotherapists, in Cyprus where we live, to help with the 'gait' problems, but this is difficult. Maybe a better form of footwear would help. Can you advise?

Fungal Infection
1 : The bottom of my feet and the sides are very dry and peeling, along with cracked heels. It is very unflattering, and it makes me not want to show my feet at all. I am going to be in a wedding in a few months abroad and they will be on show. Is there anything you can suggest?

2 :

What do I do with a foot with fungal infection and skin scaling that has been going on for more than two years?

Hallux Rigidus
1 :

I have hallux rigidus.  Do you sell any rigid insoles that could help this condition?

Flaky Skin
1 : I have dry flaky skin on the base of my foot.  I have to remove it by using skin scraper every so often.  It also leaves grains of dead skin on the bedsheet overnight.  Do you recommend anything for this condition?
Sandals
1 :
I am looking for a pair of sandals for my husband but the priority is that they do not cause foot odour. Is the foot bed of the Orthoheel Trek Sandal made of leather or man made fibre? Is there in anti-microbacterial substance included in the footbed?

Cracked Heels
1 : My foot crack during winter, and I am using cover shoes. What do I do?

2 : I have cracked heels but they are really deep & bleed. I suffer from skin infections anyway & wondered if this might be causing the problem. My feet also crack & bleed under my big toe?

Athletes Foot
1 : I have white almost soggy patches around my toes and on sole of foot that itch.  Is this athletes foot?  The nails themselves do not look infected and a couple of them are thinner.  I have been using Lamisil once for some time now which improves only slightly but does not clear it completely and makes no difference to the skin around my toes.  Is there a treatment you can suggest that I can buy -  medicine or herbal?  I have also tried Mycil powder.   It helps the sole but not nail area.  I am a nail technician and cannot see nail infection other than a couple of thinner nails.

2 : I suffer from athletes foot which occurs along the whole length of my foot (the area which touches the ground and especially the ball of my foot) I love walking but this has prevented me from doing so. For obvious reasons I cannot wear runners and flip flops are very uncomfortable. Could you recommend sandals for this purpose?
3 : Someone I know has athletes feet between the little toe and the one next to that exactly the same on each foot.  It looks like holes between the toes and the pain is very bad.  It is so bad that it affects walking they have tried everything but nothing seems to work.  Is there any thing you can suggest as they have already been to the GP.

Bromhidrosis
1 : In summer I can never wear strapless sandals or slip on shoes, as my feet just sweat and they just slip off my feet which is rather embarrassing. Can you give me any advice?

2 : I have recently noticed that my feet are smelling - it does not matter if i have flip flops or trainers on.
I wash my feet every day and around three hours after they are starting to smell.  Is this on my skin or my nails?  I am a taxi driver and I am getting a complex as I think everyone can notice this smell.  Please can you help me?

3 : I shower regularly and have pedicures, am a very clean person but still have smelly feet when I wear shoes. What is the best recommendation for treating smelly feet and is there anything that I can put into the shoe to take the bad odour away?

4 : I have really bad smelling feet. I wash them morning noon and night, change my cotton socks three times a day. Use every over the counter treatment for feet including athletes foot creams sprays and powder, and can get a pair of shoes to last more than a month without becoming smelly. What can I do next?

Copper Socks
1 : What happened to Copper baths for foot fungus?  Silver is being heavily promoted for holistic care but I feel certain that at one time it was copper. What is available today for copper?

Foot Support
1 : I recently suffered a car accident where amongst other things broken in my left foot, I fractured and dislocated my navicular bone.
Could you recommend an insole which would support my foot as get discomfort around the area of the navicular? (Particularly, when standing/walking for any length of time).

Legs
1 : I have just discovered i have shin splints and require some insoles for my golf shoes, can you help please?

Can you recomment something, maybe even something to hide it, tanning cream etc.

Hammer Toes
1 : The second toe next to my big toe is a hammer toe.  The nail on this toe is thick and very painful. I try to file it down but it is very painful and very quickly thickens up again.  What can I do?

2 : My mother is looking for a kind of pink putty which the chiropodist uses to make a support for her hammer toe. It is mixed with a hardener and lasts for a couple of months. Do you know what its called and where I can buy some for her?

3 : I'm currently training for a long wak in the summer (200 miles over 12 days). I've been fitted for a pair of walking boots which are extremely comfortable. During the fitting I was told that I had Hammer Toes on both feet - little toe and adjacent toe. When walking everything is fine until I get to 6 miles + and then my little teos and the toes next to them start rubbing, hurting and in some cases creat blisters. I've looked at the gel strips that can be cut to size and wondered if they would be the best option?

Many thanks - frustrated long distance walker!

4 : I have a problem with my feet. First of all I have a hammer toe. Can I have surgery for this?  Is it painful? Are there any other ways of straightening my toe without the surgery?  Also my feet seem to roll forward when I am wallking. I do have insoles but I find that with this condition, it causes my shoes or trainers to become misshaped.  This is very embarassing for me. Also I have arthritic joints in my feet which make them look like I have bunions. Are there any procedures to put these matters right?

Morton Neuroma
1 : I have possible Morton's Neuroma and I slightly pronate and my potential career is a ballet dancer.  I am at a loss what to do I have had physio and massage treatment.  I have orthotics and I have narrow feet, slim ankles and I find it hard to get shoes.  What I need to know is what more can I do as I am desperate to dance?

2 : Do you sell pads for morton's toe?

3 : I have probably got Morton's neuroma in my right foot, - to be confirmed by an MRI scan on 10 July. It is very painful and quite swollen between the big toe and next toe. I am wearing Scholl type shoes, so my toes are not constricted. However I do go for long walks as I have a dog, and I wear walking boots then.  What can I do to reduce the swelling and pain - both short term and long term?

4 : I have had pain in both of my feet for about four months now. It only really hurts when I put weight on them. The pain is in between my 3rd and 4th toe on each foot. I have also noticed a tingling sensation in that area. It is not a constant pain but being a teacher I am on my feet all day and when it comes on it is very painful and makes walking and standing difficult. Do you have any ideas what it could be and what i should do about it?

5 : I have morton nuroma in my right foot and I need to buy some comfortable shoes that dont look like my grannys shoes.  Do you have any sugestion?
6 : I have a Morton's Neuroma on my right foot, between the 3rd and 4th toe. I have some custom made orthotics which are very helpful, but I would like to know if there is something smaller that I could use for the summer to target the relevant area, spread the toes and give relief.

Calf Pain
1 :
A week ago I hurt the muscles/tendons in my right calf.  A GP diagonosed plantaris tendon rupture.
Would you suggest using shoe heel cushions to help recover?  If so, which ones?

I am male, 48, 5ft 5in tall, weigh about 11.5 stone and keep active.

Hot Feet
1 : I GET SEVERE PAIN AND BURNING FEELING IN THE FRONT HALF OF MY FEET.

Lumps
1 : I currently have a small lump on the underside of my foot on the ball of my foot that connects to the small toe and it is extremly painful to walk on.  There is no broken skin there.  Any suggestions as to what it might be?
2 : I have on both feet large lumps of hard skin that is on the side of my feet by my little toe. It sticks out alot and I am too much of a whimp to see someone about it.  I have tried with creams and those little machines but nothing is working.  How can I get rid of it?

3 : I have a small hard brown lump under my ball of my foot very near to my instep.
I have no discomfort.
Please can you advise as to what it might be.

Discoloured Skin
1 : I have dried hard discoloured skin on both feet. It is situated in the same place on both feet. It is on the front of my ankles on the outer side on each. It is just above where the foot raises to become the ankle. I have had this for years, since I was a child and I have tried all creams and skin care myself but nothing seems to help. I would love to be able to show off my feet in summer so any help or advice would be appreciated.

Exostosis
1 : My 6 year old daughter has a couple of pea sized lumps just above the arches of both feet where you can feel the bone.
They are very red and I'm guessing that her shoes have been rubbing them as they look rather tender. I don't know how long she's had them as it wasn't until recently that she showed me them and said how sore they were.
They feel very hard and bony and are about an inch down and away from the inside of her ankle joint.
My daughter was examined yesterday by a GP who seemed to think that it was just part of the bone structure in her foot. She has recommended my daughter to wear flip flops as much as possible over easter holidays to give her feet a rest from the school shoes that may be causing the pain and to see what happens.
Obviously, I am willing to do what the GP has asked but I'm not entirely happy with the diagnosis. Should I go back for a second opinion?

Busy Feet
1 : I work 12 hour shifts as a chef and am very busy on my feet.  What insole would you recommend?
Hard Skin
1 : Why do you get hard skin on your heels of your feet?
2 : I am a foothealth practitioner and am very interested in your site. I wonder if you can help me - I have ordered some chlorhexidine pink spray. Ddo you know if this softens hard skin as well as disinfecting skin/instruments?

3 : I have been told that there is a one or maybe two off treatment for hard skin on the heels, that returns it back to soft skin, and that it is usually carried out in salons. Is this correct? If so, what is it called please?
4 : Could you please tell me the best treatment for hard skin on the bottom of my heels and underneath my toes?
5 : Can you please advise why I get hard skin on the tops on my toes and is there is any natural way this can be permanently removed?

6 : Can you please tell me the best treatment to soften hard skin on your feet?
Toes
1 : On a recent hiking trip in the lakes, after 2/3 hours of walking the underside of my 2345 toes on my right foot felt as if they had been stuffed with concrete.  It is not particularly painfull but very uncomfortable.  When inspecting them I found no apparent problem with boots or socks.

2 : My big toe turns inward causing my first toe to cross on top of my big toe.  Can you please suggest a way to prevent this from happening, to aviod surgery?

3 : Following a stroke 5 years ago, I had some loss of feeling and weakness down my left side. I have regained most of my mobility, but my big toe tends to drop and curls up when walking. This is causing a lot of pain in my toe and would be grateful if there is anything you can recommend to support the toe which can be worn inside the shoe, like a splint.

4 : I have a disability on my left leg and hand.  I recently am having difficulty in walking.  My small toe hurts when I walk and even shoes hurt.  Please help.

5 : My second toes curl under right at the end and now you can hardly see my nail.  This runs in the family.  What can I use to help to straighten them please?

6 : I suffered an injury in a football match whereby I struck the bottom of somebodies boot with my big toe.

This has caused no swelling, just slight bruising. I can move my toe quite freely but it does hurt to move it.

The toe is painful to touch down the side, and very painfull on the joint. I do not think I have broken it due to the fact that I can move it but I am sure something is not right.

Having looked on the internet, I believe that it is ligament damage, what is the best thing to do? Should I go to A&E for an x-ray or is it a waste of time?

7 : My partner keeps getting a small ulcer on his little toe on underside fleshy pad of his right foot .Whilst it is not fully open a present it is causing discomfort.Could you please recommend anything to aleviate this problem as he is on his feet alot with his work.

8 : I have a painful 3rd toe affecting both feet.  This causes hard skin on top and tip of these toes but more importantly can give severe pain after only relatively short periods of walking or standing. Can you help me?

9 : My big toes are starting to topple over. Is there any way I can stop this happening?
Orthotics
1 : My daughter is 17 years old and walks pigeon toed which seems to get worse. Could you give me advice what I need to do?

2 : I am working at a 6 day exhibition standing and walking on a hard concrete floor all day every day and I just wondered which insoles will be best for cushioning the balls of my feet which is where I get most pain?

Perhaps you can suggest something?

3 : Please can you help? I have been told I am flat footed and have been given insoles from my local NHS podiatrist. They have a specific sizing, which is 4 degrees for the forefoot and a 2 degrees for the left rearfoot and a 4 degrees for the right rearfoot. These are very cumbersome and very hard to fit in most shoes.  Can you tell me if your insoles would be more suitable?

4 : I have recently had surgery on my knee for a torn cartledge.  I still have some discomfort and could you reccomend either a shoe or inner sole to help?  The hospital told me that I also have level 3 arthritis and will suffer pain in varying degrees.  My work involves walking all day with some kneeling and climbing. Most of the time I have to wear steel toe cap boots.

5 : I have worn the same orthotic insoles which were made for me in 1996 by a plaster cast slipper method, as I had painful knees towards the end of the day. My doctor thinks I have a trochanteric bursa and suggests gentle exercise. Will having new orthotic insoles help me when I exercise. The 1996 insoles corrected my knee pain which I think were made to order -- Your thoughts would be interesting.

6 : I currently use a pair of Gaitway foot orthoses in all of my shoes to correct a fallen arch in one of my feet. I am finding it extremely difficult to locate a replacement pair. Can you suggest where I can find them or an alternative?

7 : My daughter (12) and I both own a pair of Ugg boots, and although in all our other shoes they appear normal, after just a few times of wearing our Ugg boots we notice they have leant over as if our feet are going over as we walk.  It is a bit hard to explain, sorry.  I was wondering whether there was any support to put in the Ugg boot to rectify this as it not only looks awful as you're walking, I am worried that our ankles may get used to this flexibility and cause us problems in the future?

8 : I bought a pair of winter boots in a sale before the summer.  The shop is now closed and the boots are one size too big for my feet. Can you recommend an insert that can reduce the size of my boots?

9 : My 16 year old son is a welsh long distance runner. He has recently started complaining of pain around his achilles when exercising. Pain free when resting and minimal pain when walking but very painful when runninhg and after exercise. Should I buy a support?

10 : I wear an insole because my foot pronates and I also have a high arch. Can you tell me which insoles would be the most suitable as I need to buy some new ones?

11 : I run regularly and pro-nate causing damage to my toe joint and the top joint of my metatarsal. Can you suggest anything to go in my shoes?

12 : Where, near Dorset, can one have individually made arch supports to relieve back pain?

13 : Do you sell any shoe insoles containing no manganese or manganese oxide.

14 : I have purchased an Orthaheel Wave sandal, and now, that Winter is fast approaching, I decided to buy a pair of Orthaheel Orthotics.

However, my problem is to which pair is the most ideal for me? I am 21 years and flat-footed. I work in an office, and in the evenings I like to go for a walk or attend the gym.

15 : I am currently training for a marathon and am experiencing some leg pain. I have high arches and run in 'Neutral' shoes, which I have been fitted for, but think that the problem on my right foot is far more pronounced than my left. My right foot supinates to the point where it also rotates I think, and I am developing a stress injury in my hamstring. Can you help?

16 : I have been having treatment for lower back pain with a chiropractor. I also suffer from sharp pain on the upper part of my foot, going into my front ankle. I have a very high arch. My chiropractor recommended getting full insoles (mouldable for a supernate arch).  Can you help?

17 : I had recently been on a consultation session at BBC. I have a flat feet and was told to wear an arch support (Vasyli pro regular) half length.
I wanted to know if I can use them in my running shoes as well for running (I wear a New balance Gel shoes)

Or do I need to buy one for regular /office/casual shoes and a different pair for running/walking shoes?
18 : I have arthrisus in my mid foot and I am looking for a slim orthotic ie Carbon Fibre or hard plastic to hold my foot near ridged.

19 : I have been prescribed and have insoles for flat feet but I am still in pain. I have worn these for quite a while now. What do you suggest? Should I go back and see the consultant who prescribed them? Can I buy new ones for some quick relief. My feet really hurt and this also makes me feel really drained because of the pain?
20 : My husband was involved in an rtc 30 + years ago.  He is now aged 50 and his job involves walking and carrying but he has started to roll his foot outward walking more on his 5th metatarsal, resulting in him being in agony by the end of a 12 hour shift.  Please can you tell me what you would recommend to go in his work boots?  I can find lots of insoles for the roll inwards foot but nothing for the foot that rolls outwards.

21 : I'm currently in training for a marathon but I am experiencing a number of issues with my feet. I believe I have very flat feet and while walking and running my feet will land at close to 45 degree angles. As a consequence I have numerous blisters on the inside arch of both feet. On the left foot I also experience ligament strain around the inner ankle.
My runnning shoes are Brooks (Unverisal Platform pro GTS) that were suggested from a specialist running shop after seeing my running style, computer tested i.e pronate assisted.
I was going to look at inner soles as the next step so would welcome any advice.

22 : I am a chiropractor and I often suggest the wear of orthotics. It takes about 3 to 4 months to have an appointment with the podiatrist. I would like to know what kind of insole I should recommend to a patient with hypersupination of the feet. He works on hard floor and has a very poor feet shock absorption.

23 : About 7 years ago I bought a pair of orthotics from the Scholl shop in Newcastle Upon Tyne. They cost over £100, they had a black cushioned surface, carbon middle and a black lacquered top.  They have served me well but are wearing thin.  I'm having problems replacing them as there are no Scholl shops as such anymore.  A visit to a local foot clinic resulted in a pair of othotics were made for me but they aggravated all the knee joint heel and hip problems.  They were adjusted but to no avail.  I am currently wearing a pair of doc optics from boots although not perfect are better than the custom made ones.  I also found on the custom made ones there was no cushoning on the bottoms.  The two visits to the clinic cost over £150.  I don't know what my original othotics were - I can opnly describe them, where i bought them and how much they cost at the time and I would dearly love to be able to buy a new pair.  If you could help or advise I would be grateful.
24 : I wear carbon fibre orthotics which were custom made and fitted by a podiatrist as I have pronated ankles and was suffering with knee trouble.

The condition has improved significantly, and I have begun to do more sport. However, after running my knees are still quite sore. A physio has advised me that I can get gel insoles to wear together with the orthotics in my shoes - which will provide added cushioning when doing sport (they mentioned Spenco). Since the orthotics do reduce the volume in my trainers - I am keen to find something that I can wear together with the orthotic and does not take up too much space, but maximises the cushioning and reduces the shock / impact when running.

I would be grateful if you could advise on the most suitable product(s)?

25 : I'm pretty sure I'm a supinator as my shoes wear down on the outsides.  I have a high arch with a very slim footprint and I'm forever rolling my ankles. This last seems to have gotten worse while wearing arch supports (Superfeet green) and I've read that the ligaments will weaken over time as they are repeatedly injured. Are there any products you can recommend that will help avoid this slide?

26 : I had insoles made for my feet (from plaster casts). They are plastic and I get painful feet when I wear them now. I have worn a form of othotic since I was 11 and I am now 28. I have wide feet, flat feet and my feet role inwards - I hate buying shoes. I have bunions that have formed and as I have not been wearing my orthotics they are getting more and more pronounced and painful. I wish I could straighten them is there something that you can recommended? Also, are the othotics that you can buy online going to be okay to use?
27 : I would like to know where in London I can get insoles done at a reasonable price.
Achilles Tendonitis
1 : Which are the best heel pads or insoles for achilles tendonitis due to medication reaction please?
2 : I am a window cleaner.  Five year ago I had an achilles injury which affected my whole heel and ankle.  Two years later due to persistant pain I had an MRI scan revealing slight tendonitis. I still have pain in my heel and up the inside of my ankle to halfway up my calf. A lot of shoes are uncomfortable.  Can you suggest anything to help?
3 : I walk 5km every second day.  I have got a good pair of trainers - north face walking trainers. I am still getting some degree of pain in my achiiles heel and a burning sensation down my shins in praticular my right shin.  I should add I am walking on pavements for the full 5k.  Is there anything else I could get to stop this discomfort?

4 : I have peroneal tendon and achilles tendon soreness and my physio suggests a heel lift to raise my heels slightly .....

and also something that might give my ankle a bit of shock absorption when walking.

Can you suggest some products I might try?

5 : Three months ago I tripped on the squash court and injured my achilles. I was off work for a week. At work I wear steel toe caps and was not too long after I returned that I realised my injury had not fully cured. Although it is not stopping me from working I would like to know if you could recommend any foot products to make my feet more confortable at work? I was diagnosed with an inflamed achilles.
6 : I have had Achilles tendonitis for last 6 months with a small nodule 2 cm above heel. I have had physio for this period going through eccentric exercises and acupuncture I had an MRI scan 2 months ago which described it as insertion tendonitis and mild tendonpathy My achilles tendon feels ok as thickening has now gone. I have been wearing orthotics for last 6 months. The main problem at moment is when I am on my feet a long periods I have discomfort throughout heel area. It feels like there is no shock absorber on this foot, as pain goes up through the heel. There are no lumps, redness or swelling but feels like a problem underneath back /real of heal
Foot Odour
1 : I have suffered from sweating problem in my feet since childhood but in the last 4 years it has become more embrassing because its smells very bad even if I wear shoes.

I have tried many options to get rid of it
IONTOPHORESIS.  Once I have taken 50 unit BOTOX INJECTION POTASSIUM PERMANGANATE but it only helped a few times.  Please help me out to get rid of this bad smell because sometimes its smell from my whole body

2 : I am suffering from extremely smelly feet. I am in a professional job and the odour starts as soon as I put shoes on and it gets worse and worse as day finishes. All these areas are swollen, incluing the toe and the MTP and IP joints, which are all tender to touch, but not red or warm, and the overlying skin is normal. But lately I've developed pain on the ball of my foot--not the arch, for a change--and even the tops of my joints on the second and third toes are sore, which seems very odd to me. My second toe is quite a bit longer than my first or 'thumb' toe; and I've begun to wonder if perhaps my boots and shoes no longer fit me properly. Or there may be some other, underlying cause?

9 : I have very high arches and over pronate but recently I have developed a pain that feels like a pebble under the ball of my foot which is causing shooting pains in the arch of my foot. I have just been to a private podiatrist but he does not think its morton neuroma because its on the ball of my foot (near the toe area) not closer to the toes!! I am not convinced I am going to be given the correct insole - he is going to give me one where the area for the big toe is cut out (however it is not there I amm having the pain). Im desperate for some relief and I wonder if you could suggest anything?

10 : I am a 56 year old woman with small size 3.5 feet with high arches who runs regularly working up to an annual half marathon. 30 : I am 61 years old have never had foot problems, until now. I was told by my local Scholl shop that I have pronation of both feet. I bought some hard plastic half soles for my shoes - extremely painful. Exchanged them for Gaitway flexible half soles, wore them for two months, great - no knee or back pain. Then the balls of my feet became hot, itchy and aching. Went back to the Scholl shop and was told I had been wearing the inserts too much or it could be arthritis, stop wearing the inserts for a week or two and then try again. That was 10 days ago. The burning has gone away, but my arches ache all the time and my feet are generally very sore, and the knee and back pain has come back. I don't know which inserts to buy as the ones I have at present make it impossible to wear the majority of my shoes (mainly low very heeled shoes, Padders, Hotters, etc) can you suggest any that are not too expensive as I am living off the State Pension! One last thing are Fitflops, MBT and Earth shoes any good? I am ordering a pair of your "flip flops" for the summer.

31 : My one foot has what I was told is drainage problem. It is forever swollen and on hot days it swells even more, I have begun to experince pain from the ankle down to the tips of the toes. I am not sure if I will live with this forever or if there is a remedy for my problem.
My other foor has grown a corn on the foot ball. It gets to be so painful, sometimes I battle walking. The pain runs up to the the 3 mid toes and makes it impossible to walk.
Could there be some relief of some sort for my problem feet. I am 43 years old.

32 : I have been suffering from severe foot cramping for the last 2 years. It appears to have started after a severe bout of athletes foot. It wakes me up every night after around 2 hours . I cannot get back to sleep unless I get up for 1 hour to allow the blood to flow. I am always up around 7am as the pain is too great to sleep on. The pain goes during the day but I know the cramp is still there but is subdued. Please help.

34 : I find wearing flat shoes (no heel support) makes walking uncomfortable. Have you a product to lift my heel inside the shoes?
35 : I would be grateful if you could recommend a foot support for the following conditions. I am 23 and have hard skin on the ball of my feet in particular the ball of my left foot which causes significant pain. Furthermore, I have bunions, which at the moment are relatively small and do not cause me any pain. The second toe of my left foot also crawls under. Recently, over the past 2 months I have been experiencing severe foot cramps in my left foot only which occur in my sleep, when sitting, and generally very frequently. I have seen my GP and had some blood tests in relation to the foot cramps but nothing was detected however I continue to suffer from these cramps.
36 : I saI have started getting very bad pain on the sole of my left foot. This is on the pad between the toes and instep and at times I can hardly walk. I have tried new shoes and socks of various types but to no avail. This problem only started after my foot had been run over by a mobility scooter. I have seen a doctor but he didn't think any damage had been done and no x-ray was taken. This pain is getting worse and I would be grateful for any help and advice.
37 : I am a keen skiier and have been to see many specialists regarding the pain I get in my feet. I have been advised I have hypermobile feet (my feet bend, the joints are loose), very hypermobile ankles (my feet roll right over), the fatty pad under the ball of my foot has moved to behind my toes (hence is useless) and I have short calves. I have never really worn high heels so this was not caused by high heeled shoes. I have some orthotics that a podiatrist made for me to try and correct my alignment when skiing. The podiatrist did not comment on the problems with the balls of my feet only the hypermobility in the ankles. Another bootfitter has made me some insoles that address the problems with the balls of my feet but not the problems with my unstable ankles. The orthotics from the podiatrist have a very hard base and are agony when I am wearing them. My toes turn a variety of colours, the soles of my feet are actually bruised and luminesent red at the end of the day and after a weeks skiing (on a mixture of codeine, paracetemol and ibuprofen) the damaged nerves in my toes tingle for months afterwards. I cannot keep my ski boots on for more that 30 mins at a time now. I was thinking of trying the Plantar Cushions or the Gel Sheets to try and make up for the lack of fat on the balls of my feet and then maybe I will be able to wear the orthotics. Is there anything else you would recommend? The bones literally stick out the bottom of my feet.

How long does it take to heal the condition of Plantar Fasciitis? I feel it mainly when I wake up in the morning. Do you think reflexory or foot massage will help? Any other suggestions you can provide will be most helpful.
12 : I have my second bout of plantar fasciitis in my right foot after a 5 year interval.  I have spent lots of cash on shoes, none of which are very comfortable.I would like to try either of the Crocs medical.  Which pair would be more suitable and which size do I choose? I take 61/2 in an E fitting. I am awaiting cortisone injections.

13 : I have Plantar Fasciitis.  I have had physo and also had special shoe inserts ( biomechanics £220 ) from a Podiatrist which were fitted 2 weeks ago.  They were very good for the 1st week now pain has come back to heel.  I have also had a steriod injection.  What else can I do?

It has come to a point that I can hardly walk. On Monday I am getting an emergency appointment to see my GP again.

Please help me as I am at my whits end.

20 : I have a 12 year old daughter with Plantar Fasciitis. She is suffering for the third time with this complaint and is in severe pain and as a concerned parent I am very worried. 21 : I think I have Plantar Fasciitis.  I work in a cafe so am standing all day.  Ss it best to take some time off?  I cannot put ant weight on my heel at all.  My calf is now sore and feels very tight, and my toes are sore as I have to walk on them!  I walk alot but actually I should be doing alot more than I have been.  Usually it is about 20 miles a week, but I am standing most of the day at work.

22 : I started playing tennis six weeks ago. On my first day, I used running shoes, and ended up with aches on the sole of my right foot. I switched to proper tennis shoes after the first day. However, the dull pain remianed, and every morning it aches till I fully warm up my body for the day.

Yesterday, while practicing tennis, I seemed to have sprained the same sole of my feet. I could not run around for the ball.

I play tennis 4 days a week for an hour and a half.  What can I do?

23 : I have been diagnosed with plantar fasciitis and have for the past 3 weeks had my foot taped by the physio which is showing results. However I know that over the Summer I will have loads of walking to do especially on concrete floors and that whilst I am now getting relief I am concerned that it may flare up again. Could you clarify the suitability of the Heel-rite day splint as an alternative to tape as I know due to the fact I will be working away from home it may be difficult to continue the taping?

24 : I have been diagnosed by my doctor with Plantar Fasciitis. My plantar fascia is very tender when I touch it but I get more pain in my ankle, mostly the left one when walking too far or for any amount of time putting pressure on it. I like to dance but it does affect my ankles. I have seen a product on this website which is Orthaheel extended slimfit supports.  Would this help?

25 :

I have plantar fascitis and it is causing me alot of pain.  I have had one lot of injections in both heels last week but unfortunatley there has not been any improvement in the pain.  The doctor said I would need another two lots but am reluctant to have any more due to them not making any difference to my discomfort!  Is there any advice you could give me and suggestions of which insoles to have?

I am a runner but have not been able to run since xmas due to the pain. Can plantir fasciitis affect the area I have described or is it more likely tendonitis? When will I exercise again, are my running days over?

31 : I am getting pain in my right foot arch.  It feels like it is swollen but doesn't look swollen.  It is tender to touch.
I have tried ice packs which have made no difference, and taken anti inflamitories for a week again with little difference.  It seems to be getting better with time.  Three weeks ago it came on and I was limping now it seems to be only slightly better.
What do you think?

32 : I have been diagnosed with plantar faciitis, and I am going on a holiday in 3 weeks time.  What can I do to alleviate the pain?

33 : I recently attended A&E at the local hospital. They diagnosed Plantar Fascitis due to the pain underneath my foot. I recently started running hence the injury. I know that there is no magic cure but I am still in pain it is nearly a month since I have done any running I am still struggling to put any weight on the left foot. I am icing, resting and taking pain killers any suggestions?

34 : I have been told by my GP I have plantar fasciitis and have been told basically there is not a lot that can be done - helpful! My symptoms are exactly as described by you! I have a 35 minute walk to work every day and sometimes have to walk home too! I usually walk in trainers or walking boots and then change into "regular" shoes when I get to work. I have been told I need to keep my arches supported at all times. The main problem is I have very high arches. I have bought orthotics from Boots which are just regular things. But I can feel there is not enough support and can actually feel my foot "collapsing" where the arch isn't supported. I hobble around like an old lady in the morning until it eases off.  It's not too bad when I walk but painful when I stop and then try to move around after a period of sitting down! Would any of your orthotics be suitable for my high arches? My GP recommended I go to a sports shop that specialises in trainers that fit your feet. Not only is that incredibly expensive but I then only have one pair of shoes I can wear. I would much rather have one or two pairs of orthotics I can swap around - I'm not that rich!!!!

35 : I am a regular runner.  I have developed pain in my right foot only.  The pain starts in the ball of my foot (below the big toe) and continues along the underside of the inside of foot to the heel.  The underside towards my heel has become very tight and hard with a small painful lump just before the start of the heel.  At the moment this pain only affects my running.  I was considering buying the Feetlife Orthotics.  Please advise if you think they will eliminate the pain and can you recommed a course of action so I will be able to continue my exercise?

36 : i have severe pain in my heel and I cannot walk or stand on it, especially when I have being stitting or standing for a while or getting out of bed, or after I have being driving. please tell me what to do?

38 : I have suffered with heel pain for some time now. i had it in my right heel to begin with and now have it in both heels constantly. The pain is sometimes unbearable. I have tried the heel inserts that you can buy in boots etc and they do not make any difference. What is the best one to try? I refuse to have the steroid injections and doctor does not recommend them. Please can you help? .

40 : Having just been told I have plantar fasciitis I am trying everything to help the problem but am not getting any results - they are still very painful. Will any creams help?
41 : My son who is 15 and a runner has been told he has Plantar Fasciitis in his left foot. He has prescription orthotics after having a bimechanical assessment, and now this has occurred, he has been told to do lots of stretching exercises on his calf muscles and feet. How long do you think it will take before the pain will improve? He is keen to get back to running but not sure when he should start. Are the night splints you can buy any good? He also has osgoods slatters and we have been told its all down to his bones growing quicker than the muscles etc. I have spent lots of money on private physio treatment and really can't afford much more. Is it just a matter of time for the orthotics to settle his body down? He has had them for about 4 weeks and started running on them 3 weeks ago but has had to stop again last week. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
42 : Please could yu tell me the correct orthotic I will need for Plantar Fasciitis?
43 : I've got really flat feet and have been to my podiatrist who fitted me with shoe insert which have helped, but I'm still having heel pain that doesn't get any better. It seems to be worse first thing in the morning and gets better, but it is always painful and have had this pain before fitted with the inserts. Can you tell me what I can do or are there any shoes that can help me?
44 : I have got Plantar Fasciitis in my left foot. I cannot take anti inflammatory tablets so can you advise me what to use? I am type 2 diabetic.
Leg Ulcers
1 : My wife age 35 has mixed connectivity tissue disease and has a leg ulcer in the upperpart of her feet below the fingers in a 2cm area. The wound is very slow to heal and she is undergoing infusion to initiate healing. Doctors have advised to wear socks that will keep her feet warm. She is concerned about finding a sock that will keep her feet warm without causing any pressure or uncomfort to the wound. Can you suggest a suitable product?
Children's Feet
1 : My first born son age 2 years has an Egyptian foot as per my orthopedic surgon in his left foot.  It is very worrying for my family since its never been seen in my family.  Kindly advise me the best treatment.  More over I live in very rural place with no access to major hospitals. We will be very grateful for your concern and help.  Thank you.

2 : My daughter is four years old. When she first started walking we were advised to put her in kicker boots or she may have to orthopedic boots. We are unable to get kicker boots to fit her so she has been wearing Start Rite shoes. Her problem has improved altough she is still turning both feet in she curls her toes as she walks and falls over alot more than the average four year old. We have been advised to find a private podiatrist but are not sure how to find a legitimate one for children, can you help?

3 : Could you recommend a medial arch support suitable for a child (size UK1 feet)?

4 : When my son started walking at 18 months we noticed that he had flat feet. Our doctor told us to wait and see how his walking develops over the next 12 months. He is now 2 years and 3 months and still has flat feet. We took him to see a orthopeadic consultant and were told that our son needed to wear special shoes to help his arches form. My concern is the doctor only did a visual diagnosis by looking at our son while standing. He did not check his knees, hips, posture etc, and also did n ot tell us if he had flexible or rigid flat feet. I think I will get a second opinion as to whether he needs special footwear or not. Please can you advise if their is any benefit in me getting him special footwear now or should I wait another 6 months or so and see if the problems resolves naturally as he grows?
Nails
1 : I am nearly at the last treatment of Clearzal, bottle number 2, and I am exremely disappointed in the results. Do you suggest I purchase a 3rd bottle and will it work? Your leaflet seems to suggest no guarantees - is this correct?

2 : I have a fungal nail infection but do not want to take anti fungal tablets as I am allergic to lots of tablets.  I have tried Clearzal and it seems to help but not clear it.  Can you reccomend anything?
My nails are very dry and brittle and just keep on crumbling away.
Please can you help?

3 : Can I put nail varnish on my fungal nai?
4 : I have one toe where the corner of the nail has become thick, discoloured and dry. Its a big toe. Also after I have been walking about 2 hours or so I get pains in my middle toes. I am coming up to sixty, can you help please? It does go off after a rest but soon comes back. Its quite painful putting the feet to the floor.
5 : I have severe nail infection to all my toes I have tried all these topical solutions but with no success. What else can be done for this? Do I need to take oral antibiotics? Are there any oral antibiotics which work?
6 : I have one toe where the corner of the nail has become thick, discoloured and dry, its a big toe. Also after I have been walking about 2 hours or so I get pains in my middle toes now I am coming up to sixty, can you help please? It does go off after a rest but soon comes back, its quite painful putting the feet to the floor.
Foot Calluses
1 : On top of both my big toes I seem to have hard skin. Callous/corn that has also discoloured my skin. I have been doctors and he gave me some ointment, which contains salicylic acid which I believe is the active ingredient. It did remove the skin, however after a while returned back to hard discolored skin, being quite fair it is really noticeable and quite annoying. Not painful at all and I have changed footwear (initial cause was probably ill fitting footwear, safety boots).  Can/do you recommend any creams etc that may help with regular maintenance?
2 : I have hard skin on the side of my foot which doesn't hurt. I assume it is a callus. Is it alright to file down the hard skin?

3 : Underneath my feet I have a painful hard lump just below toes. Not sure if its a bunion or callus? How would I go about getting rid on them? What is the cause? My heels are also all cracked and dry.

4 : I have had operations on both my feet for correction of bunions. I have got callouses on both my feet which needs attention regularly and can get very uncomfortable. The way I distribute my weight on my feet due to knee problems has caused hard skin to build on the side of my feet near the toes. What can I do to relieve the pressure so that hard skin and callouses do not build up and is there a permanent solution?

5 : Recently I have developed hard lumps at the base of my 2nd, 3rd and 4th toe on each foot - they feel like bone! There is no pain, and I have only noticed as the weather is getting nicer and I am starting to wear sandals again.  Any ideas?

6 : How should I treat foot calluses?

7 : What causes foot calluses?

Flat Foot
1 : Are their particular type of shoes you would recomend for a 14 year old girl, who has flatfoot?

2 :

My son has a flat feet, one is worse than the other and he needs help. Can I send some photos to help you recommend the proper insole for his present shoes?  Can you tell me how by sending me steps & sample photos you require. PLEASE reply asap.

3 : I have been told that I am flat footed.  My first question is can this be reversed?
Recently I have been experiencing excruciating pain on the top of my feet. My feet are very wide and I have a very high instep (which causes me problems with many flipflops and trainers not fitting over my foot). The pain feels like it is deep inside (like bruised bones). Do you know what this could be?

4 :
I have twin girls aged 22 months who have flat feet and are double jointed, so shoes are a problem. I have them in Clarks shoes with ankle support and have been using foam in half of the shoes as recommended by the doctor but this does not seem to be working.  Can you advise if you have a product that will help? They are at present in a size 5 shoe. I have searched the internet but most products are based in the US and I would rather get them in the UK if possible.

5 : My daughter is 12 and has flat feet. She has recently been complaining that the outside edge of her foot has "lumps" which are painful to touch. She does have two distinct lumps that seem swollen on the outer edge of her foot. Is this due to her flat feet? Is there anything that can be done to ease her discomfort?

6 : Hi, I am 48 years old and have flat feet. When I walk with ordinary shoes I get numbness on ball of my right foot no matter what kind of shoes I wear. I also get muscle pain on both legs below my knees if I wear a different shoe for walking. I need a pair of light weight shoes for walking to help me get rid of the above problems. Could you please advise me on what type of shoes or sandals I should be wearing as I walk about an hour and a half per day?

7 : Hello I have been told that my 9 year old daughter has 'flat feet' and have been advised to purchase insoles for this condition. At present her shoe size is 1 and i need to know if anything is available for her. I look forward to your comments.

8 : I am looking for some insoles for my shoes/trainers. I really do not know which type to go for so could do with some advice. If I tell you a bit about myself and the problems I am experiencing, perhaps you could advise on the best insoles for my needs.
I am quite large, approx 23 stone. As you can probably imagine, the pressure on my feet when standing and/or walking is immense. I have little or no arch and my feet have become flat and also very wide. I am probably a size 12 shoes size but I have to go for size 13 shoes because the width of my feet. I have recently been experiencing a lot of pain in the heels of my feet and also the balls of my feet to the point that it is almost unbearable to walk. I am thinking perhaps that I need so gel insoles with possibly an arch support.
I would be greatful if you could suggest my options and what would be most beenficial for me. What I am really looking for is some kind of cushioning under my feet so that they are not so sore.

9 : I need some advice on insoles.  I suffer with flat feet and have had problems with achilles tendonitis.
10 : I suffer with flat feet and have tried all sorts of arches and still no difference.  Is your Thermoskin Heel Rite day splint for flat feet and do thay come as a pair?

11 : My daughter is 12 and has flat feet.  She had some insoles fitted by the hospital. Her feet have now grown & we are waiting for an appointment to go back. She is getting a lot of ankle & knee pain. I was wondering if your flip flop shoes would be any good for her. We are going to Florida soon & I am worried about all the walking she is going to be doing around the parks. I do not want this to ruin her special holiday for her. Please could you help & recommend something for her

12 : I have very flat feet and I don't think that standard orthotic insoles would do the job of supporting the feet efficiently. I have tried made to order orthotics found them uncomfortable and were very expensive. I need something that is easy to slip in and out of different shoes and wont hurt so much if they get lost.
13 : I am flat footed. Currently I have terrible pains in my ankles and feet. It seems better when I wear high heels shoes though medium heels. I dont feel comfortable as I would like to take a walk from time to time but it is impossible. I cannot excercise either as I want to work on the weight (I am currently 102kg). The pain is more on the inner right foot. What can I do?
14 : Is there a treatment for Flat Foot?

15 : I have been told i have Flat Foot. What is this?

Toenails
1 : I have sent you a question about my corn but I have also got other problems with my feet. I am 64 years of age by the way. Over the last few years I have noticed that my toenails have become very thick and horny like so it is quite difficult cutting them with scissors. Also some have gone a bit yellow looking. Is this a fungal infection or just an age thing? I have heard that tea tree oil is good should I soak them in that? Is there anything else I can do? Do I need to get special nail clippers for cutting them?

2 : Can all treatments of an ingrown toenail be done at a podiatrist or is hospital treatment sometimes required?

3 : My toe nail on my big toe has gone half black and the doctors dont seem to be giving me anything for it.
It has started to spread to the majority of the nail now and I dont know what to do. A friend recommended me the Terbinafine tablets but only can be prescribed by the doctor.
What would you recommend?
Should I book an appointment to come and see someone at your clinic?

4 : My son is 10 years old and has bad toe nail fungal infection.  What can I use for him and is this product ok for him to use? How much will it cost in total as I am in Cape Town, South Africa.
5 : I have been cutting my nails too short and tapering them with the shape of my toes and therefore have ingrowing toenails. They do not hurt yet and I think I have ben doing it for a number of years. I used to run a lot and do hill walking and used to feel uncomfortable if they were too long.

On my big toes, the nails seems to be growing inwards more and I'm worried it will get to stage where it will hurt. The only thing I am doing at the moment is trying to cut it back, but this is obviously just delaying it and not improving the situation. The skin around all my toes seem to grow over my nails and I cut my nails according to this.

How can I get out of this cycle?

I also have another problem with my toes. The tendons are really tight causing my toes to be pulled up and bent which I think is claw toe. Is there anything I can do about these problems?

6 : My nails (toes) are clogged with hard skin, and I also have very hard skin below some of my toes.

Please advice what I could do?

7 : My two large toe nails and 2 small toe nails are yellow brown and very thick.  When they grow out it comes back again. Is it a kind if fungus?  Is Clearzal the prduct to use or curanail which is more expensive but is it better?  Please could you advise me what is the best way to cure it.  Thank you.

8 : I have been using loceryl from the doctors on perscription for 18 months and it has not cleard the infection so I am trying Clearzal.  Can I paint my toe nails while I am treating my toe nails with Clearzal?

9 : I have a fungal nail infection on every toe on one foot. It started out with one nail and now it is on all 5 toes. I am really embarrased by them and will not wear sandals. They are getting really hard to cut now also. Please could you recommend the best thing for them?
10 : I have an ingrowing toenail that is very red and swollen and also very painfull.  It has a very little amount of puss that oozies when I squeeze it.

Is there any treatment I can buy to help with the swelling?

I am quite scared to go and see a Chiropodist, as I am afraid they are going to hurt me as it is too painful to do anything to it.

My toe nail is very short too so I am worried as to how they would remove the splint that is causing the pain.
11 : My right toenail has been yellow and thick and hard to clip for about 18 months. Is there a treatment, and, if so, what is the safest and most effective one, please? (Do you recommend Curanail and Scholl's 3-in-1 product?)

12 : My big toe was very painful a few weeks ago and now the nail is turning a dark color, is there anything i can use to help it?

13 : I have discoloured toenails on my left foot but not on my right. Is it a fungal infection? There is no pain but the toenails are weaker and my toes are more wrinkly?

14 : I have some toenails that are hollow and I can put a nail file inside the nail why is this?
15 : I am getting very mixed advice about a persistant inrown toenail.
1) have it removed
2) no need to remove it
3) we will remove the sides of the nails
4) your nails are too healthy to remove
I have tried 18 months with a Chiropodist who tried packing it.  I had adheisive stips to correct the growth and finally cut the sore nails away (very sore).  This seemed to create more vigourous growth of the ingrown tails.
Vists to the chiropodist are now every 3 weeks.
Pre Diabetis diagnosed. Can I have your advice please?
Also what is your opinion on Trolarix?

16 : I have hard white stuff which looks like thick skin under the toe nails which does not come away when I cut my nails. How can I treat it as it then looks unsightly and is longer than the nails?

17 : I have a black toenail on my left foot and swollen toe, (I use to do regular running and wearing trainers but I don't this is the problem)
However I think I dropped something on it but did not treat it correctly.
The toes seems as if it has blood circulation and I eat my vitamins but could always eat more.

18 : How do I treat a ingrown toenail that is just starting off.  Also second toenail seems to be getting hard. What should I do? Is this a fungus?

19 : MOST OF MY TOES ARE CREAM IN COLOUR AND THERE SEEMS TO BE A SOFT FUNGUS GROWTH THAT GOES BACK INTO THE NAIL. CAN THIS BE CURED AND WHAT IS THE TREATMENT SUGGESTED? I HAVE TRIED OTHER BOTTLES OF CHEMICALS THAT ARE SUPPOSE TO WORK BUT WITH LITTLE IMPROVEMENT.

20 : I took toe nail clipping to the doctor, and they were sent to the lab as the tip of my big toe was sore, and the nail was a bit yellow.  I have had to go for blood test, dont know why yet, but toe is not so bad now.  Underneath my 2nd or 3rd toe is very painful when I walk, not at the tip but further down.  Can you tell me whats happening?  There is also sweaty with an odour.

21 : I have been using the Clearzal treatment for about 2 weeks.  I have infection in 2 toes. One nail softened and came away easily. Will my toe nail grow back again?
(Am still treating the nail bed with the Clearzal).

22 : I have a thickness on my big toe on both feet in the corner.  I bathe them often.  I dont know if it is a fungus as it is discoloured it never goes away.  Is their a cream I could use I wont take any tablets
23 : For over 20 years, as far back as I can remember, my little toe nails have been thick and dark. In addition one of my big toe nails has a dark vertical stripe through it although the nail itself is not thick. Each time the toe nails are cut, they grow back as before. The nails and toes are not painful, the skin around the nails is not inflamed and the condition has not spread to any other nails. Looking on-line at symptoms of fungal infections I don't believe it is a fungus as there is no pain, swelling, spreading, no yellowing etc. Please can you advise as to what this could be. I have noticed that lots of people (friends, people in the streets, on trains etc) also have dark little-toe nails. Can this be cured?

24 : I have been suffering continously from my toe nail going into my skin and it gets infected and very painful. I heard recently from my doctor back from my home country that there has been some kind of product that has come out which you insert between the nail and the skin the nail goes into and the idea is to lift the nail up and gradually prevent from going inside the skin. I was told that it has come out in Italy but my doctor did not know the name for it. I was wondering if you have heard and if so please recomend the name of the product so I can look for it and buy it.

25 : I have had fungal nail disease for some time now (approx. 7 years).  My big toe nail is just crumbling and discoloured. Would a chiropodist help by removing the nail completely?

26 : Re Ingrowing toe nails. Is it possible to buy glue to hold the piece of cotton wool "tucked" into the edge of my ingrowing toenail? My Chiropodist uses this but the cotton wool on one side easily comes out when cleaning the toenails. He uses a dark brown glue /solution. I am also wondering if there is a colourless version as the brown is somewhat unsightly. This has been an ongoingproblem for many years. I have no other health issues ie diabetes but do wear orthotics and have had two hip replacements at the ages of 55 and 61 (I am now 63).
27 : Eight years ago I had to have both large toenails removed and have been extremely embarrassed ever since. Is there any procedure which you could have permanent false nails?

I dream of wearing pretty open sandals and have tried to, but seem to always attract attention because they look so ugly.
3 : I have got what I think is a corn under my middle toe on my left foot. It is extremely painful when I walk on it. It is like very hard skin but I can see a tiny spot in the middle which could be the heart of the corn. I tried a boots own corn plaster for 2 days but the pain was awful and when I took it off the skin was all white. I have put soft pressure rings and moleskin plasters on it but it is still painful when walking. Can you advise me what to do?

Foot Blisters
1 : I started a get fit campaign this Monday, and started a gradual walk on my walking machine. I stupidly forgot that I already had purchased a new set of orthotics (I have flat feet), and went ahead and put my old pair in as well.
The result was Tuesday - huge blisters on the instep, which I treated by piercing with a sterile needle, and bathing in salt water, and then using savlon overnight.
No problems. Wednesday, I walked again (8 klms) and overnight the problems became severe, although I used the same treatment.
Now, I can't walk except on the sides of my feet, and the serum is constantly there, despite the piercing. The area is extremely sore, and I can't wear shoes.
HELP PLEASE!

What would you recommend??

8 : Please advise what treatment or prevention products I should use. I play 5-a-side football twice per week. I wear the correct duarble astro-footwear and apply cushion plasters to the ball of my foot and the base of my big toes.

9 : A few years ago i suffered fractures to both my heels and as a result of this I now have scar tissue from my operations in the central heel area. Because of this when I hill walk I suffer terrible blisters over the thin scar tissue. As the skin there is already very thin I am concerned that many more blisters will result in there eventually being no skin to heal. I have tried compeed and hydrocolloid dressings but these only last for a short while. Due to the change in shape of my left heel this one is more prone to rubbing on the back of my boot and ends up in more of a state. Please could you recommend one of your products to me?

7 : I have had for years a corn/verruca (not sure what it is) on the inside of my second toe (next to big toe).  It gets lots of hard skin on it.  Today when I removed the hard skin, there is a single black dot in the middle of the area.  In the past ther has sometimes been several black dots.  I have consulted professionals about it and it has never been resolved.  Is it corn or verruca?

8 : I have had a verucca on the upper centre ball of my foot for several years. Despite countless visits to a chiropodist for acid treatment, they eventually suggested I ask the doctor to send me to a specialist. The doctor didn't think this necessary and gave me verucca gel which I have used every day since - the verucca is still there!! Can I have the verucca cut out once and for all? Who should I get to do this if so? Thanks

9 : My veruccas have been there for 4-5 years now and I have not succeeded in killing them but have the ability to have regular treatment. I have a large cluster on one foot and a couple of other smaller ones. The large one really hurts whilst walking. I plan on get the Occusal and Silicone pads.  Is this enough?

10 : How do you heal a long standing verruca? Every form of treatment has been used, even banana skin as advised by a podiatrist. It now has a raw centre which bleeds easily when dry skin is cut away and is very painful to walk on. It lies on the sole of my right foot. I look forward to any suggestions.
11 : I have this very painful verrucca on the ball of my foot for four months now. I need an urgent treatment as I cant bear the pain anymore. I had cryo surgery three times now but it's not done anything at all, in fact it's got worst and bigger.

12 : I seem to have a cluster of tiny verrucae under the ball of my left foot. I am due to leave on a 16 day long trekking holiday in 8 days and am worried that these may get worse, or if treated cause even more problems from the application of a gel etc. Any advice please to minimise potential discomfort or protect the area.
13 : I have a verruca on the ball of my foot which also has a callus over the top. I have recently seen a podiatrist who advised that I continue to take off the hard skin above the verruca which I have been doing for the last 2 years or so, and she said to put a verruca liquid onto it. I do have to file the callus every couple of days otherwise it is really painful. Can you advise which verruca product would be best?
14 : I had a verruca which I treated with one of those freezing sprays. It has gone extremely soft and is weeping. Its like a blister but soft and squidgy. What would be your advise and how should I now treat it?

Bunion
1 : My Mom has the worst bunion anyone can hope for and she is in total agony all the time, she is 79 years old. We have taken her to hospital and they cannot help her. They say she is to old and we dont have the money to help her further. She cannot wear shoes sandals or anyhing besides stokies (soft slippers) with a streach. Last year her bunion turned sceptic and there was a hole (i thought she was going to die as the pain was so severe, we ran up and down to the goverment hospital and nothing could be done. She recovered from pain a bit, but now there is a thick calous formed and very sensitive and i am so scared if she hurts that then she is doomed. How can i help her further with comfortable shoes and pain killers for this problem.

2 : Is there anything that works that I can buy to treat a very painful bunion?
3 : I have bunions on both my feet and I feel pain wearing shoes other than a sports shoe. I also have a painful right knee.
I walk alot.
What would you suggest I wear?

4 : I have a slight bunion on my feet.  My left foot is worse then the rigt foot.  Obviously they hurt more if I ever wear heels. Please advise what can I buy to make it more comfortable?

5 : After a number of operations to rectify a badly done bunion operation some time ago, I now have one toe which has no feeling and drops below toes either side.  This causes me much discomfort at times and I have been looking without success for some form of support to raise this toe to the level of the adjacent ones.  Can you advise if such a support (pad?) exists and where it may be obtained?

6 : I have a bunion which is qiute prominent on my left foot.  Should I have foot surgery?  This is arthritus so does this mean i will get arthritus in other parts of my body because I have it in my foot?

7 : Is it a very painful operation for bunions and are you asleep when you have the operation?

8 : I have been advised by the hospital to have an operation to remove a bunion. Is there any new operations which involve less pain after the operation & a quicker recovery time?
9 : I am interested in this: Bunion (Hallux Valgus) Night Splint SALE PRICE : £ 23.99 Code: CAN-HALLUX-00115.  I had my bunion / toe straightening op a couple of years ago, and now my big toes look like they are heading back to their old ways. Will this product help prevent that? Secondly, the picture shows a pair, but it does not say anywhere in the text whether you get a single item, or a pair in the package. Can you advise?
10 : What are bunions? What causes them and how can they be cured?

11 : It has been seven weeks since having Bilateral hallux valgus and Bilateral binionettes and 4th toe with mallet deformity operation.  I can walk with difficulty.  Should I be doing any form of exercise to put pressure on the ball of the foot? Also how long will it be before the swelling goes down and is there something I can do to help it?

12 : I have a bunion which does not bother me in my normal day to day routine, but I hill walk most weekends and my walking boots rub on it. I have several pairs of boots and all are the same. This is ok if I am only walking one day, but I am going on a walking holiday later in year and will be walking average of 14 miles per day for 7 days. Any ideas of how I can protect bunion ?
13 : MY BIG TOE IS TURNING IN.  I ALSO HAVE A BUNION ON THAT FOOT.  WHAT COULD I DO TO STOP IT TURNING IN BECAUSE IT IS GETTING WORSE?

14 : Could I ask you if you should know about lazer surgery for bunions, as it seems widely used in New Zealand.  The French seem to have an excellent record for recovery.  Do they use any different methods in surgery?

15 : When should one result to bunion surgery?  My bunions do not hurt if I change shoes in the day, but my big toe is starting to turn.  What is the sucess rate of the above regarding surgery?  Are the gel splints any use?

16 : What is the youngest age that surgery for bunions would be performed? My daughter is fourteen and suffers from bunions and it is quite often painful. We have used creams and splints but she is still having problems with them. Can you give any advice?
17 : My bunion itself does not really hurt that much. It rubs when I walk, but with orthotics in my boots I can walk at least 5 miles before it is a problem. The ball of my foot gets very uncomfortable and I wonder if this is due to the bunion. Surgery has been suggested but as I can still walk some distance and I am not in terrible pain, I wonder if surgery is the answer. I am 65 years old with a bit of arthritis in the toe and my circulation is not what it should be. I hear conflicting opinions and would like to hear yours. I wear orthotics because of dropped arches and they are a great help, particularly with hammer toes, but I feel that I need quite an adjustment for the effects to be as good as they used to be. With orthotics, is it best to have them specially made or is it just as good to buy them on-line? Any advice you can give would be very greatly appreciated.
18 : I am waiting to have bunion corrective surgery, but my foot has become so much worse over the past few months that I cannot now walk very far. I bought a bunion splint for night time, and was wondering if there is one to be worn during the day time? I cannot seem to find any. I saw a podiatrist about the pain I am in and she said my second toe has become almost dislocated, and it is now bent, like a claw. My big toe is moving very fast underneath this second toe. I was born with bunions on both feet and had an unsucessful operation on my other foot 30 years ago. Can you please suggest anything? I am getting very depressed about my lack of mobility.
19 : What is a bunion?

20 : Is a bunion hereditory?
