What is a Shin Splint?

A Shin Splint is a general term used to refer to a painful condition in the shins.

What causes Shin Splints?

One cause of Shin Splints is due to overused muscle. The muscle pain is caused by any activity that involves running, jumping and sometimes even swimming. An individual not accustomed to running may experience pain in the shin muscles the next day even after a single, short bout of intense running.

A Shin Splint is a result of inflammation of connective tissue in the lower leg. The Shin Splint can cause pain in the whole area of the shins.

Another major cause of Shin Splints is the over pronation of the foot.

Treatment and prevention of Shin Splints

Keep off your feet as much as possible and reduce the amount of excercise.
