Dry cracked skin usually occurs when people do not perspire enough, or as a result of poor blood supply in the elderly. Often it is referred to as having a dry skin type, which suggests either genetic, or congenital causes.
A person who suffers from very dry skin may complain that the skin becomes so dry that it cracks, particularly in the heel area where it is subject to pressure and shearing stresses.
