Occlusal Verruca Treatment
Occlusal Verruca Treatment (10ml) is an easy to use solution for the treatment of common warts and veruccae.
The active ingredient salicylic acid belongs to the group of
medicines known as keratolytics. Salicylic acid works by breaking down
keratin, a protein which forms part of the skin structure. This results
in the shedding of skin cells in the affected area. In the treatment of
warts, foot calluses and verucca the effects of salicylic acid is to
remove the affected skin over a period of time.
Occlusal Solution combines a high concentration of salicylic acid with a novel self-occluding polyacrylic vehicle. This vehicle forms a durable occlusive layer over the wart or verruca, aiding penetration of the salicylic acid and eliminating the need for a bandage or a plaster.
Less Irritation
Occlusal is a viscous liquid, which can be accurately applied to the wart or verruca using the brush which is supplied. Occlusal dries quickly on application, avoiding contamination of the surrounding healthy skin.
The result - a marked reduction in the incidence of irritation, compared with a conventional collodion-based keratolytic agent.
Simple Application
No dressings or bandages required, it is quick drying and early visible response and a low incidence of irritation, all support compliance to Occlusal and successful treatment.
What is a verruca?
A verruca is a wart that is usually found on the soles of your feet. In the early stages, a verruca looks like a small, dark, puncture mark but later turns grey or brown. It may become rough and bumpy with a cauliflower-like appearance and may develop a black spot in the middle, which is caused by bleeding. A verruca can grow to half an inch in diameter and may spread into a cluster of small warts.
What causes a verruca?
Verrucae are caused by the human papiloma virus and is very contagious, but can only be caught by direct contact. Verrucae thrives in warm, moist environments such as swimming pools, changing room floors and bathrooms. So if an infected bare foot walks across the poolside, it may release virus-infected cells onto the floor. If you then walk on the same floor, you can pick the virus up, especially if you have any small or invisible cuts on the foot that make it even easier for the virus to penetrate. You could also catch the virus from an infected towel.
Minimise your chances of catching a verruca by keeping your feet clean and dry, and covering up any cuts or scratches. Avoid walking barefoot in communal showers or changing rooms and don’t share towels. It is recommended to wear verruca socks when swimming to avoid passing on the virus.
